This summer, Philadelphia welcomed nearly 1.4 million visitors for landmark events including FIFA Fan Fest, MLB All-Star Week, and America250 celebrations. Despite extreme heat that pushed customer demand to a peak of 8,438 MW and severe storms across the region, PECO’s investments in infrastructure and operational preparedness helped ensure reliable electric service for customers, businesses, and visitors throughout one of the city’s busiest summers.
In preparation for Philadelphia’s role as a FIFA World Cup host city, PECO completed targeted infrastructure upgrades at Lemon Hill, home of FIFA Fan Fest. Improvements included tree trimming, transformer upgrades, pole replacements, underground cable installations, and line enhancements. These investments supported reliability for event operations and enhanced Lemon Hill’s ability to host future large-scale events for years to come.
As part of the celebration, PECO and Exelon joined Mayor Cherelle Parker and the City of Philadelphia to dedicate a commemorative flag created by artist DL Warfield in collaboration with the Barnes Foundation and PECO employees. The artwork, displayed in PECO’s Main Office Building lobby on Market Street, honors Philadelphia’s legacy as the birthplace of American democracy.
During MLB All-Star Week, PECO provided reliable electric service to Citizens Bank Park, the Pennsylvania Convention Center, and MLB Network broadcast operations. Extensive planning, contingency preparations, and strategic crew deployment helped ensure event readiness throughout the week.
From international sporting events to historic civic celebrations, PECO’s investments in infrastructure, planning, and preparedness helped keep Philadelphia powered during a summer of extraordinary moments while delivering lasting benefits for the communities we serve.
