Did you know that the average cost to charge an electric vehicle is three times less than fueling an internal combustion engine equivalent? With the rising cost of gasoline prices and numerous electric models available to drive, EVs are becoming a more affordable option. This week is National Drive Electric Week (9/22 – 10/1), and we’re continuing our commitment to cleaner energy solutions by educating customers about this smarter transportation choice, both for your wallet and the environment.

An important component of PECO’s Path to Clean is our support for alternative fuel vehicles, including EVs and other cleaner transportation technologies. With charging ports available throughout the country at offices, stores, and more, it has never been easier to drive an all-electric vehicle (sometimes called a battery electric vehicle or BEV) or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV).

PECO is committed to supporting customers as they transition to electrified vehicles, which is why the company has several opportunities for EV adopters to save. Most recently, PECO modified its existing Level 2 (L2) Commercial Electric Vehicle Charging Pilot rebate, repurposing existing funds and expanding eligibility to create a new $1 million Public Benefit Charging Program that will be available through 2024. The new program will support L2 charging, as well as fast charging installations, and expand eligible uses to include charging stations for battery electric passenger buses, commuter shuttles, school buses, taxi cabs, and rideshare vehicles. This rebate will be available for commercial customers, non-profit organizations, as well as county, municipal, and regional government entities, with enhanced incentives available for installations in environmental justice areas, as defined by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). Applications for the new Public Benefit Charging Program are anticipated to open in the coming weeks.

In addition to this customer support, PECO is working to electrify its own fleet, along with our parent company, Exelon Utilities. PECO currently has approximately 150 plug-in vehicles, which has increased by 50 vehicles compared to last year.

Customers can join the ongoing mission to combat climate change by supporting the adoption of EVs. Our EVsmart Program features an interactive, online EV toolkit that allows customers to research EV and PHEV options, calculate carbon reduction for environmental savings, estimate the fuel savings of owning an EV, and discover potential tax incentives and special promotions, including the PECO Driver Rebate where customers can apply for a $50 rebate just for purchasing a plug-in EV, and much more.
