Powering the Playoffs: PECO Prepares for Flyers’ and Sixers Playoff Push

As the Flyers made a historic push for the postseason, the 76ers were also battling on the hardwood to make the NBA Playoffs in a citywide surge toward the postseason.

While the Flyers overcame a nine‑point deficit in the standings to end a playoff drought and the 76ers fought through a demanding NBA schedule, PECO was working behind the scenes to make sure Xfinity Mobile Arena stayed powered for every shift, fast break, or buzzer beater no matter which team took the floor or the ice.

To ensure reliable service on gamedays throughout both playoff runs, PECO’s Emergency Response Organization has proactively initiated its significant event planning process, checking, testing, and repairing (if necessary) electric equipment well ahead of every puck drop and tipoff.

Underground electric circuits from a nearby substation supply Xfinity Mobile Arena with the energy needed to power both a Stanley Cup chase and NBA Playoff run. Higher‑voltage electricity is delivered to the arena’s electric room, where customer‑owned distribution equipment transforms power into usable voltages to run the countless systems that keep the building juiced for playoff intensity.

Leading up to the first rounds of each playoff, PECO crews carefully and methodically performed visual and thermographic inspections of equipment. Using infrared cameras, crews scanned for “hot spots” on components to identify early signs that equipment may need repair or replacement. Crews also inspected transmission equipment, reviewed the condition of switchgears, and developed enhanced staffing and contingency plans to meet the demands of packed playoff calendars.

This work builds on the investments PECO makes year‑round to ensure our infrastructure and systems are ready to meet the needs of our customers, during the postseason and beyond.
