Building a Stronger Grid: PECO’s 2025 Investments Boost Reliability
April 2, 2026Investments to improve reliability and resiliency are paying off for southeastern Pennsylvania customers
With stronger infrastructure, smarter technology, and dedicated employees, PECO delivered some of its most reliable services in 2025. Even with several severe storms, including one of the most damaging in PECO’s history, customers experienced the fourth-lowest outage rate ever recorded. In total, 73 percent of customers had zero or just one outage all year. When outages did occur, crews restored service in an average of 88 minutes, improving upon 2024’s average.
These results are part of PECO’s nearly $10 billion, five-year plan to modernize and strengthen its electric and natural gas systems. The company is upgrading equipment, performing maintenance and inspections, and managing vegetation to reduce tree-related outages. In 2025, PECO completed more than 250 reliability projects across its service area. When it comes to power outages, trees and tree limbs cause about 40 percent of all outages. That is why proactive tree maintenance remains essential for preventing service interruptions. PECO’s vegetation management team trimmed over 3,300 miles of aerial power lines to clear potentially damaging trees and tree limbs.
In 2025, PECO continued upgrading its technology by installing 120 new reclosers, bringing the total to more than 3,600 and helping prevent over one million customer interruptions each year. Smart meters improve outage response during storms by confirming when customers are restored. They also help avoid more than 370,000 unnecessary crew dispatches, allowing faster and more efficient restoration.
