PECO’s dedicated natural gas employees answer the call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, on weekends and holidays, and in challenging conditions to keep natural gas flowing for our customers across southeastern Pennsylvania. Today may be Natural Gas Utility Workers’ Day, but we appreciate our employees every day of the year.
Safety is always PECO’s top priority, and that is especially true when responding to natural gas odors. If a customer reports a natural gas odor, PECO has a commitment to respond to calls within one hour.

In addition to our core mission of providing safe and reliable service to our customers, PECO has a strong commitment to protecting and preserving the environment. We believe that natural gas is a key to overall energy system reliability, resiliency, and affordability, and that it offers a cleaner energy solution for our customers. Maintaining and cleaning our natural gas delivery system while also supporting electrification, energy efficiency, and clean energy development is critical to achieving a transition to a decarbonized clean energy future. That’s why we continue to support research and invest in our natural gas system to ensure we can offer a full range of clean energy solutions to our customers.
PECO provides safe, reliable, affordable and clean natural gas service for more than 553,700 customers in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and a portion of Lancaster counties.
To keep the natural gas flowing for customers, the PECO operates and maintains more than 14,000 miles of natural gas transmission, distribution and service lines. This includes investing more than $315 million each year in equipment inspections, repairs, upgrades, preventive maintenance and installing additional natural gas pipe to bring natural gas service to new customers.
PECO is investing more than $200 million each year to replace existing cast iron, wrought iron, ductile iron and bare steel main lines.
PECO continues to accelerate work to replace existing natural gas main and service lines with new plastic pipe, which enhances safety, is more durable, improves service, and reduces methane emissions.
In 2025 alone, PECO completed 288 projects, replacing nearly 330,000 feet of existing natural gas lines.
In 2025 PECO completed its Natural Gas Reliability Station in Marple Township, the station is a receiving point that will support the supply of natural gas in the Marple and will ensure PECO can continue to safely deliver reliable and affordable natural gas to meet the growing needs of the customers and communities we serve.
