PECO Expands and Extends Customer Relief Fund to Support More Customers and Reduce Burden of Higher Energy Supply Costs
March 4, 2026PECO and its parent company, Exelon, have added an additional $2.5 million expanded eligibility criteria to provide $750 one-time grants to qualifying customers across southeastern Pennsylvania
Here’s what you need to know
EXISTING: Customers in arrears, with a household income that falls between 151 and 300% of the Federal Poverty Level, which would enable a family of four making between $48,547 and $96,450 per year to qualify.
NEW: Customers in arrears, with a household income that falls between 0 and 150% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) would be eligible. Based on current FPL guidelines, this would enable a family of four making $48,255 or less per year to qualify.
“PECO has deep roots in our community and we’re proud to do our part during this challenging time as local families struggle with rising costs, including energy bills,” said David Vahos, PECO president and CEO. “We’ve expanded the PECO Customer Relief Fund to provide greater support because we know energy supply costs continue to impact household budgets. This enhanced assistance provides relief while we work alongside state and local officials to address the broader challenges driving energy affordability.”

How the PECO Customer Relief Fund Works
PECO and United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey are working closely to provide limited- and moderate-income PECO customers with meaningful relief, as customers will likely see an increase in their energy bills driven by abnormal weather temperatures and increasing energy supply costs as energy demand rises and supply is not there to meet it.
Additional enhancements to the PECO Customer Relief Fund expand eligibility criteria to support more customers. Residential customers can now have past-due balances between $1 and $2,500, and their household income fall between 0% and 300% of the Federal Poverty Level. If eligible, customers will see relief from high energy bills in the form of a one-time $750 credit on their PECO bill once their application is approved and processed. Customers can learn more about the qualifying criteria and how to apply at peco.com/Relief.
A New Source for Relief
The PECO Customer Relief Fund is a one-time program in addition to PECO’s existing efforts to make energy affordable and to help customers manage their bills, including:
- Customer Assistance Program (CAP) and the Matching Energy Assistance Fund (MEAF).
- Customizable customer tools and resources to manage their energy more efficiently through My Account.
- Energy assistance finder tools available that can connect our customers with other potential financial assistance options, bill management options and even energy-efficiency programs that can help reduce overall usage amounts and serve to lower energy cost.
The PECO Customer Relief Fund can help those customers who may not qualify for existing programs, but who still need assistance during challenging periods. In 2024, PECO connected 140,000 customers with energy assistance programs, which provided over $170 million in support.
