As winter approaches, PECO crews have been hard at work to prepare the natural gas and electric systems for the increased demand of the heating season. This proactive work includes critical infrastructure upgrades designed to strengthen the local energy grid, reduce the risk of power outages, and enhance resilience against severe winter weather.
While we prepare our natural gas and electric systems, you can also take steps to prepare for winter. Now is the time to have heating systems checked by a qualified technician for safe and efficient operation. It’s also important to inspect natural gas appliances—such as ovens, dryers, fireplaces, and water heaters—to keep them running safely and efficiently throughout the season.
Bill Relief and Assistance Programs
As temperatures drop, you may start using your heating system more often, which can increase energy usage. In addition, supply charges for both electric and natural gas will be updated on December 1. These changes, combined with higher usage, could result in adjusted energy bills.
As a reminder, the supply charge makes up about half of your total bill and can be purchased through a competitive supplier. If you are not purchasing electricity or natural gas from a competitive supplier, these costs are passed along directly at exact the cost that PECO pays. PECO has the highest customer assistance program participation in the state to help you manage energy bills. Income-qualified programs are available to help with past-due balance forgiveness, energy efficiency measures, hardship grants, and referrals for other services. This year, PECO introduced its Customer Relief Fund to support customers who previously may not have qualified for income-based assistance programs. We also help connect customers with programs that provide grant assistance for outstanding balances. For more information about assistance programs, visit peco.com/help.
