Today, PECO joins millions around the world in celebrating Earth Hour, the world’s largest annual voluntary environmental action event to drive public awareness around climate change. For one hour, PECO will power down its iconic LED Crown Lights atop the company’s main office building to stand in solidarity with likeminded organizations as a catalyst for necessary change. PECO led the charge across the city, joining forces with the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of Philadelphia to encourage others to power down the Philadelphia skyline in support of a cleaner energy future.

In line with PECO’s environmental efforts, we are observing Earth Hour to demonstrate our commitment to protecting and preserving the environment and combatting climate change. Every year, this small action carries great significance in raising awareness of the pressing issues facing our one and only home – Planet Earth.

In addition to Earth Hour, PECO is playing a leading role in the Greater Philadelphia region’s transition to a clean energy future to combat climate change as part of our Path to Clean goal, which will support the Exelon Utilities goal to reduce operations-driven emissions 50 percent by 2030 and achieve net-zero operations-driven emissions by 2050.

In addition to “going dark” on March 26, PECO has implemented a range of year-round environmental initiatives, which include transitioning to an environmentally friendly fleet of vehicles, creating new ways to expand the deployment of solar energy, and executing energy efficiency programs to help our customers save energy and money.

Beyond our duty to power homes and businesses, we’re actively putting our energy into the environment to create an equitable and environmentally-just future for our communities. No matter how big or small, we believe that all of our clean energy-focused initiatives will make an invaluable difference in our community, and on our planet, for years to come.

PECO’s Crown Lights continue to be a staple in the community celebrating many significant milestones with more than two million LED lights overlooking the city. By flipping the switch on the Crown Lights for this hour-long movement, we’re taking a small but impactful step in shaping a bright future for the generations to follow us.

Through PECO’s Path to Clean, we’re implementing programs to dramatically reduce our own carbon footprint, while also investing in our infrastructure to make clean energy solutions more accessible, affordable, and equitable for our customers. For more information, click here.
